How do you make a car from a
cardboard Box? Thinking of this brings back a lot of memories. This
is something I used to do all the time when I was a kid. Like most
kids I had a vivid imagination and some time to act on that
imagination. One activity that took up a lot of my time was making
cars out of cardboard boxes and "driving" them all over the
house. They didn't roll but they scooted pretty easily propelled by
my hands on the floor outside the box. This might be one activity you
can share with your kids but you might not want to let them slide
down the stairs and crash into the wall at the bottom the way I used
to do.
Select a box big enough for the person that
is going to "drive" the car. Your child is best suited to
make this selection.
Take out crayons, markers, colored pencils or
any other item used for drawing on cardboard.
Sit down on the floor with your child.
Have your child draw headlights, tail lights,
wheels or whatever features the child wants to draw on the box. You
can assist in the drawing process as much as your child allows.
If desired you can cut little doors in the
side of the box with a box cutter or knife. You should not allow your
child to do this. The doors should be small enough to not compromise
the structural integrity of the box.
Another variation is to cut a hole in the
bottom of the box so your child can walk around driving the cardboard
car instead of scooting. With this variation you could make one for
yourself and have a great time driving around with your child. Then
you have traffic!
That's it! Now your child can scoot around
the room driving the new cardboard box car.
